Partially adaptive beamformer design subject to worst-case performance constraints

چکیده
This correspondence proposes two methods for designing partially adaptive beamformers that satisfy a performance specification over a set of likely interference scenarios. Both methods choose the adaptation space in a sequential fashion; the dimension is increased one by one until the performance specification is attained. In the multilevel point design method, each dimension of the adaptation space is chosen to give optimum performance at a single interference scenario. The constrained minimization design method chooses each dimension of the adaptation space to exactly satisfy the performance specification at a single interference scenario while approximately minimizing the average interference output power over neighboring scenarios. Simulations indicate that both methods result in better performance than existing methods while using fewer degrees of freedom.

A Robust Adaptive Beamformer Based on Semidefinite Programming with Quadratic Constraints
A robust beamforming with quadratic constraints, formulated as a semidefinite programming (SDP) problem, is proposed in this paper. With this formulation, the constraints on magnitude response can be easily imposed on the adaptive beamformer. And the non-convex quadratic constraints can be transformed into linear constraints. Therefore, the proposed method can be robust against the steering dir...
متن کاملIterative robust adaptive beamforming
The minimum power distortionless response beamformer has a good interference rejection capability, but the desired signal will be suppressed if signal steering vector or data covariance matrix is not precise. The worst-case performance optimization-based robust adaptive beamformer (WCB) has been developed to solve this problem. However, the solution of WCB cannot be expressed in a closed form, ...
متن کاملComparison of Adaptive Beamforming Algorithms Robust Against Directional of Arrival Mismatch
The conventional adaptive beamformers face the problem of performance degradation in the presence of desired signal in the training data snapshots if there is a small mismatch between the presumed and the actual signal direction. In case of such mismatch, these beamformers generate the main beam in the presumed direction of desired signal and the actual signal with mismatched direction is consi...
متن کاملRobust adaptive beamforming using worst-case performance optimization: a solution to the signal mismatch problem
Adaptive beamforming methods are known to degrade if some of underlying assumptions on the environment, sources, or sensor array become violated. In particular, if the desired signal is present in training snapshots, the adaptive array performance may be quite sensitive even to slight mismatches between the presumed and actual signal steering vectors (spatial signatures). Such mismatches can oc...
متن کاملFully Quaternion-Valued Adaptive Beamforming Based on Crossed-Dipole Arrays
Based on crossed-dipole antenna arrays, quaternion-valued data models have been developed for both direction of arrival estimation and beamforming in the past. However, for almost all the models, and especially for adaptive beamforming, the desired signal is still complex-valued as in the quaternion-valued Capon beamformer. Since the complex-valued desired signal only has two components, while ...
